Bali is located in the centre of the Indonesian archipelago between the Indian Ocean in the south and the Java Sea in the north.
With its 13,677 islands it is the largest archipelago in the world and connects Asia with Australia. The island with its 5,620 square metres is inhabited by almost 3 million Balinese. About 300,000 live in Denpasar, the capital. The majority of the population lives in small villages scattered all over the island along the paddy fields. From east to west a volcanic mountain range extends itself over the whole island with its highest mountain, the Gunung Agung (3,142 m). Bali, although only two kilometres away from Java, is mainly influenced by the Hindu culture, while the Moslem culture predominates Java. Almost nowhere in the world one can find such a fascinating blend of culture, religion, art and agriculture reflected in every day life.
In the north-western part of Bali, on a fine black-sandy lava beach near Pemuteran, an area yet unspoilt by tourism, is our MATAHARI BEACH RESORT & SPA located.
If one`s eye wanders from our resort to the north, one will enjoy a spectacular view of the Java Sea, especially at sunrise and sunset. South of the resort bizarre mountain structures rise into the sky and build the natural entrance to Bali¹s National Park. From Denpasar airport we can offer two transfer possibilities: An unforgettable 20 minute helicopter flight over the most beautiful parts of the island. An extraordinary start of your holiday! Or guests may be diven in one of our comfortable air-conditioned limousines and enjoy a three-hours ride through small villages and a fascinating mountain scenery. Here our guests can take a shower under the open sky - an unforgettable experience! The Deluxe and Super Deluxe Bungalows are additionally equipped with double wash-basins and bidets. The Super Deluxe Bungalow offers another extra: a private pavilion in the middle of a lotus pond.

- Diving: David`s Dive Center was changed into Werner Lau Diving Center Bali.
The MATAHARI BEACH RESORT & SPA is the perfect place for both snorkelling and diving. At WERNER LAU DIVE CENTER all activities are planned. No matter whether our guests are experienced or not, if they like to use their own diving gear or one provided by the Dive Center, the instructor (PADI) will ensure that everyone is well prepared. Guests may have their first diving experience in our pool which has the ideal depth for training (3m).
And then they may enjoy the beautiful coral reef only 200 m away from our resort. The 10 km long untouched reef with its tropical flora and fauna (gorgonian woods, table corals, large horn coral fields) is ideal for snorkelling and diving: Even experienced and widely travelled divers will be enthusiastic about the diving at Menjangan Island, which is part of the Bali Barat National Park and is only 50 minutes away by boat. Here divers will find almost everything tropical waters can offer: Whale sharks, gorgonian woods, sea ferns, table corals, peaceful sharks, stingrays, tortoises and a lot more. An extreme richness of tropical fish can be observed. Steep face and current diving excursions are possible.
Only the MATAHARI BEACH RESORT & SPA and WERNER LAU DIVE CENTER has the exclusive rights for a direct access to Menjangan Island by boat. No other hotel and dive center in Bali can offer this privilege.
Another attraction is Tulamban: Here one can find - in a depth of about 20 to 30 m - the wreck of a Japanese freighter completely covered by corals. Last but not least there is the area of Amed which offers the most beautiful steep face diving excursions for experienced divers.

We organize sighseeing-trips to all sights of the island. Each trip is individually planned according to your wishes may it be visitinging all places of Bali¹s cultrual heritage or simply going to the next village for shopping.
Always taking the local cutstons and tradition in to consideration, especially when visiting temples or watching religious processions.
We also offer different classes to learn traditional craftsmanship such as woodcarving, sculpture and painting in small shady pavilions directly on our premises.

Enjoy culinary pleasures and let yourself be pampered by the highly imaginative creations of Jany-Michel Fourré and his team from both kitchen and wine-cellar. On request we offer our guests different cooking-classes to learn the secrets of this exotic cuisine under professional directions.

Enjoy our extensive wellness offers in our worldwide unique and authentic balinese SPA-Concept which will be offered as per autumn 1999. Once you have had a traditional balinese massage in our beach pavilion looking onto the Java Sea you will know what we mean by "Holiday for Body and Soul".
